Whilst sitting in the Amphitheater

Whilst sitting in the amphitheater a few thoughts crossed through my mind. During my german class today, which overall is one of the worst class experiences I have had since being in college, we were discussing environmental issues as best we could as a class in German. One of the guys in the class which just so happens to be an extremely flamboyant gay ultra conservative republican asked the question,"Well what if we don't care about the environment at all? How do we say that in German?" To which the teacher replied with a frown," "Das ist mir die Umwelt egal"....(I think).... This is not the first time I have heard someone say this, but it is the first time I have heard someone say this in college. This is disturbing to me. I can't understand how someone could honestly say they don't give a shit about the environment at all. It is people like this that make the world a shittier place. They go about there lives half assing everything and never stop to think that we all have some responsibility for the future of our planet. I do not by any stretch think that everyone can become an environmentalist, but it would be nice to believe that everyone could find it inside themselves to care about the world they are a part of. If there is any other form of intelligent life out there in the vast sea of space they will likely never stop by our planet to share their developments with us, nor even bother to stop by to destroy us because at this rate of popular opinion thinking global warming is a joke we will likely kill ourselves so why waste the laser beams and space gas on a dying planet with an arrogant, blood thirsty , greedy, populace. We as humans have created so many great things. Why should we waste our future potential away for the pursuit of the dollar. Is money what drives the world? Yes... but people can be happy with less money. There are actually studies out there that prove this. People with money just over the poverty level tend to be similarly happy to those that are in the top 2% of high wealth. For the gay business major in my german class I say this, "How would you like it if while you were with your male partner someone came by and smeared feces all over your face, scrubbed you up and down with coal, exposed you to nuclear waste, threw a bunch of half eaten food at you, pissed in your hair, and then proceeded to rape you?" Would you cry out for help? What if a bunch of straight people walked by and saw you crying for help and they didn't stop saying they didn't give a shit about some gay guy getting randomly shat on...? Just a thought....To clarify if this seemed negative towards homosexuals I apologize. The example used just as easily could have been straight or bi, but in this case he was gay. For the most part I believe the gay community tends to lean towards being environmentally friendly, but not this chap. If it makes you feel better I dislike other people of all races, gender, and sexual orientation that share this fellows opinion on the environment. .....
